News From Argentina
The Argentine Toxicological Association (ATA) is the oldest scientific
entity that joins all the toxicologists of Argentina since 1975. Among
other activities, ATA organizes each year both the Argentinean Congress
of Toxicology and the Interdisciplinary Meeting of Toxicology that join
all the toxicologists.
It also publishes a quarterly Bulletin ATA Informa that is edited and distributed
on line among all members, as well as the scientific Journal Acta Toxicológica
Argentina, of which 8 volumes have already been published; it is indexed
by the Chemical Abstracts.
ATA is preparing the edition of a book titled ADVANCES OF THE TOXICOLOGY
IN ARGENTINA; Dr. Nelson Albiano and Dr. Alfredo Salibián, both
former Presidents of the ATA have been appointed to act as Editors.
The book will present a collection of original articles written by most
of the outstanding Argentinean toxicologists who will expose their experience
as well as their more significant contributions developed in their laboratories
and Institutes.
The book will be interdisciplinary and will cover most of the areas of
the Toxicology. Approximately 30 papers have already been selected, covering
topics of the Veterinary, Forensic, Environmental, Clinical and Ecological
Toxicology. Other articles will devoted to basic Toxicology as Neurotoxicology,
resistance mechanism and effects of insecticides on non target species,
animal toxins, etc.
It is timely to point out that the book of the ATA will be the first interdisciplinary
toxicological text edited and published in Latin America, presenting the
results of original research entirely conducted in local laboratories.
At present the Editors are trying to get the resources that will allow
the edition of the book, which is a difficult task in the present economical
circumstances; in this regard, the IUTOX community may consider the possibility
of contributing to the ATA´s project and are invited to do so by
contacting the Editors at ata@dd.com.ar.
