Professor Satoh called the meeting to order and said that the Task Force's job is now finished, and IART will take it from here. He asked for suggestions on what needed to be done now that the IART has been established and IUTOX has agreed to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IART. Professor Hayes asked if the MOU had indeed been signed, and the answer is that it has not yet been signed but it will be shortly.

A suggestion was made to scan the signed charters and MOU's from the participating organizations and have them posted on the IUTOX website. Also suggested was the creation of a bulleted documenbt for the web page which would guide poeple on what needs to be done to clarify all of the IART activities.

There was considerable discussion about what is to be done next. Professors Boobis and Hayes asked that the Task Force take a leading role for IART as a Steering Committee for IART to help develop a constitution, and arrange the next meeting of IART. All three representative of IART member organizations agreed that the IUTOX Task Force was to be dissolved, and to be reconstituted as the IART Steering Committee, with approval by all of the IART members not in attendance, and with the understanding that every member of IART may appoint a member to serve on the Steering Committee.

The IUTOX Harmonization Task Force was disbanded, and the meeting continued as an open meeting of the IART Steering Committee.

With the establishment of the IART Steering Committee, discussion moved to the tasks that need to be performed in the near future. These tasks include:

1. Formal Designation of Delegates and Alternates by the IART member organizations.

2. Election of an Executive Committee by and from the Delegates and Alternates

3. Formulation of a Constitution

4. Arrangements for the next meetings including agendas.

5. Funding strategies and needs for IART.

6. Increasing the membership to include all certification and registration bodies.

Professor Boobis will arrange a time and room for the next IART meeting during the EUROTOX meeting in Istanbul in September, most likely on the day when Continuing Education courses are held. He will also ask all of the individual registration bodies which are included in the EUROTOX register, to sign on and join IART.

The steering committee agreed that the next meeting of IART after Istanbul will be in association with the SOT meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, in 2002. This would be the first formal meeting of IART with all the delegates, alternates and IUTOX observers in attendance, during which an Executive Committee would be elected, following which the Steering Committee will be disbanded.

Until this is done, Professor Satoh has agreed to be the "keeper" of signed documents for IART and and Dr. Craigmill will continue to serve as Secretary and will insure that all documents and information are placed on the IUTOX website for IART activities.

The meeting was adjourned.

Arthur L. Craigmill

Secretary, IART Steering Committee
