What is IUTOX?

International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) Mission is to:

Improve human health through the science and practice of toxicology world-wide.

International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) Vision is to:

IUTOX achieves its vision by fostering international scientific cooperation for the global acquisition and utilization of knowledge in toxicology for the improvement of human health.

What is IUTOX?

IUTOX is the voice of toxicology on the global stage; the organization which seeks to increase the knowledge base of toxicological issues facing humankind and to extend this knowledge to developing societies and nations. Founded in 1980, IUTOX now has 51affiliated societies representing all six continents and over 20,000 toxicologists from industry, academia and government as members; offering a diverse and challenging perspective on every issue and development relating to the profession.

The leadership of IUTOX is held by the Executive Committee (EC), which changes every three years and is elected by the member-society-appointed delegates. The EC reviews and redefines the IUTOX mission to develop and establish objectives and tasks that will ensure that IUTOX continues to be the voice for toxicology internationally.

What are the General Objectives of IUTOX?

  • to serve as the scientific voice of toxicology in the world
  • to provide leadership as a worldwide scientific organization that objectively addresses global issues involving the toxicological sciences
  • to broaden the geographical base of toxicology as a discipline and a profession to all countries of the world
  • to pursue capacity building in toxicology, particularly in developing countries to utilize its global perspective and network to contribute to the enhancement of toxicology education and the career development of young toxicologists.

How Can I Personally Contribute to Advancing Toxicology Globally?

  • Encourage your national toxicology group to become an IUTOX member society;
  • Attend the ICT, CTDC, and RASS meetings;
  • Submit session proposals, abstracts, and volunteer to speak at IUTOX meetings;
  • Help translate toxicology materials;
  • Ask your organization to contribute financially to IUTOX Programs;
  • Make a personal financial contribution to IUTOX.
